Just to preempt the inevitable denier rants about how volcanoes are naturally pumping out greenhouse gasses so industry shouldn't have to do anything to reduce their emissions, here's a useful chart from Andrew Sullivan: In other words even with a huge Icelandic volcano pumping out smoke, ash and CO2 - greenhouse gasses have actually been reduced in the last week because of grounded flights.
