Senator McFlip-Flop

As almost anyone could have predicted, now that he's sewn up the nomination by re-branding himself as a doctrinaire Republican, John McCain has begun the process of swinging back to the 'maverick' who stands up to Republican orthodoxy by harshly condemning President Bush's incompetent handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Why is it that any Democrat candidate who evolves their positions gets piled on for being a 'flip-flopper' but Republicans can engage in the most blatant pandering depending on which audience they are playing to without the media calling them on it?
